Honda NT650 Hawk GT carb tuning (2)

I Got this bike with pods, a stage 3 jet kit, and a supertrap exhaust. The following is what I know about the bike from poking around in it.

float height10.4mm10.0mm The previous owner says it's running rich, and I'd believe that based on the black soot in the exhaust pipe. I haven't pulled the plugs yet to look at them, so they my contradict that.

based on the other hawk, I'm thinking the 165/160 is too rich, I'll back off to 160/155 or so to see what happens. but not yet, it needs a clutch first.

Ok, so it's definately way rich on the top end, someone I was riding with told me that it was burning black on hard acceleration.

At the end of that ride the idle circuits were all clogged up (probably from rust crap in the tank) and it didn't idle right, and throttle response was icky.

Upon opening the carbs up I discovered that the main jets were backwards, the 165 was in the rear, and the 160 in the front. That's kind of weird, but understandable given that the one in the front goes to the rear carb. I've done the same thing. In any case it can't have helped performance.

I also found that one spring was 7-1/2", the other 7-3/4", so I'm going to stretch them both to as close to 8" as I can.

yea, I'm changing too many variables, but they all have to be done.
